Build Your Own Sustainable Christmas Tree

Have you ever considered building your own Christmas tree? Here are a few ideas for creating a festive substitute, utilizing reclaimed wood.

Above: The PossibiliTree is designed by architect Richard Babcock, who was “tired of finding, hauling, displaying, watering, and disposing of the bulky, needle-dropping, space-guzzling evergreen every Christmas.” The tree, which is handmade using reclaimed or “deadfall” wood, is available in a 2- or 3-foot tabletop model or a 6-foot-tall suspended version.

Above: Ingrid Jansen’s The (Christmas) Trees are crafted out of various reclaimed wooden planks.

Above: To decorate your wooden tree, consider screwing in small hooks to hang ornaments.

Above: This simple DIY project uses different sized recycled wood planks; originally seen via Desire to Inspire.

Great Ideas but I support our local tree farm, after Christmas, the tree goes outside by the bird feeder to provide shelter, and in the spring we have ceremonial fire, sage and pine smell beautiful together

I love the creativity...But nothing takes the place of the real evergreen!
