Adapted from Holistic Aromatherapy for Animals, by Kristen Leigh Bell (Findhorn Press, 2002).

If your dog is prone to separation anxiety, or has a fear of people, places, things, or loud noises, or dislikes travel, or has training or show nerves, or was rescued or came from an abusive situation, this blend will help to soothe and calm her.

The author reports amazing success with the formula, ranging from “taking the edge off” to soothing the dog to the point where it gets very mellow and takes a nap! Here is the helpful formula:

INGREDIENTS
1/2 ounce carrier oil (the author uses hazelnut or sweet almond)
3 drops essential oil of Valerian
2 drops essential oil of Vetiver
4 drops essential oil of Petitgrain
3 drops essential oil of Sweet Marjoram
2 drops essential oil of Sweet Orange

Mix ingredients thoroughly and apply 1 to 6 drops (depending on the size of your dog) to the dog’s nasal opening.
