Chris Brown Selling Pit Bull Puppies for $1,000

Chris Brown Selling Pit Bull Puppies for $1,000

Chris Brown has a number of pit bull puppies for sale at $1,000 each. SPCALA has said he is breeding and selling them, and he has a website called CB Breeds. However, people close to him were reported as saying he is not breeding them, but merely selling the puppies his adult pit bulls had two months ago.

It does seem a little strange to go to the length of creating a website with the domain name CB Breeds and publishing the puppy details there if it is only to sell about seven puppies, with a potential revenue of just $7,000.

Each of his puppies apparently comes with registration, current vaccinations and a performance pedigree. SPCLA posted a blog entry that questioned the motive for selling these puppies, “Why does a rock star and known domestic violence abuser choose to breed dogs,  and why, specifically pit bulls? What does Brown know about the genetics of responsible breeding? Will the dogs be fixed? How will they determine what is a good home? Who would pay that price? Do pit bulls enhance his ‘bad boy’ image?”

Pit Bulls are one of the more euthanized breeds. An Arizona animal shelter said about 68 percent of their pit bulls were put down last year.

The Huffington Post published a list of nine dogs that are in need of adopting, and reported 17,000 healthy or treatable dogs were euthanized in LA last year, in order to underscore the point there are many pets in shelters that need adopting, and it would be better to donate to animal centers than pay $1,000 for one puppy.

Sorry, Christine, but I disagree completely. I DO agree or at least have advice that anyone buying ANY puppy or kitten be educated on the breed they choose and basic "how to care for" instructions. However, going by what you say, anyone contemplating having a child should have to go to a funeral home and watch a human being embalmed. That is just not reasonable.

Anyone who buys a puppy should first be required to witness the euthanasia of animals at a high kill shelter....

Frankly, people should boycott buying them, just like any other shady business. No market for his product, he'll stop selling. Thanks.

Clara, obviously if Brown's female was pregnant, she wasn't "fixed". If he had no intention of becoming a "breeder", his female should have been, and as far as being advertised with a performance "pedigree", what on earth is that? AKC does not recognize "Pitbulls", so what's with the registration? UKC (United Kennel Club) apparently does recognize them, but Pitbulls are not bred to PERFORM anything specifically (according to their admirers, they are NOT bred to fight) so perform just WHAT?

Alan G., I agree with you. Anyone who purposely breeds any animal should be required to get a license or at least be able to pass a test for competency, BUT who would administer such a test, or what would the rules be? Licenses are usually just a means to get revenue. What about people that "breed"? Why not require humans to get a license to have kids? How would laws requiring a license to breed anything prevent UN-LICENSED people from doing so? Used to be, marriage was expected before becoming parents. No longer the case. Now, people are basically either spitting them out "willy nilly" or buying them if they can afford to buy sperm or finance a surrogate. I'm not against unmarried people being parents, and just saying there are no rules or testing done to be so with people, so why would anyone think that paying one's $20 or $50 or $100 to get a license to breed their dog would ensure being responsible breeders?

Further and further down that slippery slope, Chris Brown... Let him have no animals: this is not a compassionate, caring individual.
