Clever Uses for Wood Crates

Clever Uses for Wood Crates

We are drawn to the versatility and rustic appeal of wood crates.  As DIY projects, they are simple and satisfying and provide a multitude of organization solutions.

Above: Spotted on Brock Street, this modular shelving system is an affordable storage fix that is easy to replicate.

Above: Another DIY shelving unit incorporating crates; a unique option for a home library.

Above: We like this idea of painting the crates in bright shades for a children’s room.

Above: These Rolling Storage Crates from Serena & Lily serve as a convenient catchall for odds and ends.

Above: Originally seen in the New York Times, this Seattle kitchen incorporates a mix of new elements and reclaimed materials from local salvage yards, including wood crates for storage.

Above: Scour your local flea market, grocery store, or antique mall for wood crates. For an online resource, Three Potato Four offers similar versions of these Red Diamond Explosives crates.

When my husband & I first got married, we used crates to make a bookshelf. We never thought about putting wheels on them. Duh... That sure would have made it easier to move (LOL).
