Dear Annie,
My hair is really dry and I’ve tried olive oil to soften it, leaving it in and then washing it, but my hair still feels dry. Any ideas? –Laurie, MS

Dear Laurie,
I just tried using coconut oil in my dry hair, inspired by reader comments on an article we have on the site about repairing your hair with olive oil. I’ve used olive oil in the past, too, with mixed results.

I love using coconut oil for baking, and had some handy, so last night I slathered quite a lot on my hair, wrapped it in a towel, and went about my life for a few hours before washing the coconut out thoroughly with shampoo. I followed the washing with a conditioner, like usual.

I couldn’t be happier with how soft my hair feels today. I am so happy with it, in fact, that I am going to have my hair trimmed to cut off all the split ends and have a fresh start, and have a routine of treating my hair with coconut oil at least once a week.

I have been reading the comments about coconut oil and hair. It is great for your hair, but PLEASE don't forget to use this wonder on your skin!! It's great on eyes and face too. Use alone or with a favorite lotion. It's also one of the best oil's for cooking lots of people just eat it by the spoonful. Great for your heart and body! Just go on line and check out the benefits of using pure virgin coconut oil. I use 100% pure virgin coconut oil.
purchase at a local health food store! My skin glows since I began using it.. Just do a little research and you'll be hooked!

Patricia, Coconut oil can be found in Shoppers' Drug Mart or Bulk Barn (in the Ottawa, ON Canada area). I have looked in our WalMart and other grocery stores around here and have not been able to find it there. Health food stores also carry it. Good luck!

My daugther came downstairs in tears, a wad of dry brittle hair brok off. I , alos noticed how dry her scapl was. I immediately washed and treated with a deep conditioner. I roller set it wiith coconut oil and sne sat under the dryer. Her hair is beautiful, easy to manage and she is out of my hair. We are using it as a conditioner, hair dressing and moistureizers. I noticed when I put it on at night after a shower, i don't have to put lotion on in the am.

100% pure Coconut oil - so pure, so effective, yet so incredibly cheap, THE best hair treatment - for dry, damaged hair. Period.

I recently went from medium brown to light blonde (thanks to bleach). I have straight, fine hair that is naturally oily. I put coconut oil in my hair over the weekend to see how it worked. My hair is softer than it has ever been. It is so shiny and it holds style better, too. After flat-ironing it, I did not need to put any serum or leave-in conditioner to keep it smooth. It is so wonderful! I am a licensed cosmotologist and this is the best conditioner I have ever used. I am also now using it as a night cream on my face and neck. My skin is very dry and after only two uses, I can see a big difference. Thanks for the great suggestion!

My teenage daughter had a lot of dandruff, before she washed her hair I put raw coconut oil mixed with tea tree oil. She left it on about 4 hours. I didn't ask how many times she shampooed but it all came out in one shower. Her hair had almost no dandruff and was the most manageable we've ever seen it! We loved it.
