Controversy Over Big Cat Breeding Ban

A bill in Congress would ban breeding of lions, tigers, pumas and other large cats. It’s an effort to prevent tragedies like the release of dozens of wild animals in Zanesville, Ohio last year. But big cat lovers are lining up on opposite sides of the issue. Photo Credit: mooglet via Flickr.

if Bhagavan 'Doc' Antle is legitimate, why would he not welcome regulation? and if he legitimately 'loves' big cats, why does he keep 400 of them in captivity? shame on him.

"I'm all for the breeding of these animals in order to keep their species alive and well as so many are poached for their skins etc. that we need to do something to keep the species of such endangered animals alive. However, I would like to see them rehabilitated to the wild after they have been born under the care of zoo's and have not become so acclimated to humans that they need to remain in such places such as zoo's circus' etc."

Elaine said it all. A breeding ban is non-sense. Those animals are on the verge of extinction.

It's not an easy one. If I had the land I would love to make a reserve for them, but I'm assuming I would need to run it almost as a business, and not just have them just by myself. I've also heard stories about people's next-door neighbours in residential areas with pet lions and in no way can I condone that. There definitely need to be some guidelines

It would not be necessary to do this if we were willing to decrease our ridiculous numbers, the less people the better for everyone!!!
