Could Veganism End World Hunger?

It is easy to feel helpless in the fight against malnutrition when you hear about the 925 million* men, women and children who are facing this devastating crisis today. But there is something you can do about it, and it begins with what you choose to put our your own dinner plate.

This video from the Evolve! Campaign summarizes some startling facts from 2010 about how a plant-based diet and vegan choices could END world hunger. While this may sound too good to be true, you may be surprised to find out that the amount of grain produced globally today is enough to feed the world TWICE over, but instead the majority of it is being fed to farmed animals!

If you’re concerned about animal rights, water conservation, clean air and health then you may already be on the road to becoming vegan – so why not take five minutes and find out how veganism could end world hunger?

*This video is from last year and states that 840 million people were going hungry at the time it was made. New statistics have been released to date demonstrating that over 925 million people are now going hungry and 55% of the 12 million childhood deaths recorded each year are due to malnutrition.

Look for my post on vegan choices to end world hunger, with updated statistics, coming soon!

It's not a matter of giving up eating a particular food... Food is routinely wasted and thrown away because of an economic and politically motivated drive. There are food "mountains". I forget the exact figures, but we waste TONNES of food every year, which could easily be used to feed people. Plus the amount spent on Military warfare alone could be used to create programmes of food distribution.

Switching diets from carnivore to vegetarianism or veganism would create massive turbulence the world over as there are entire industries, with millions of jobs, which is a multi-billion industry.

Veganism - Make the connection!

~A total of 60% of grain is grown to feed farmed animals.

~Raising animals for meat is an inefficient use of land that could be used for growing crops for people to eat.

~The food that is used to feed animals who are then slaughtered for meat would feed more people if they ate the crops directly.

A part of the grains used to feed livestock could be used to feed everyone in the world. Simple as that.

Then the effort for this growing can be diversified to producing a variety of organic fruits and veg.

Wishful thinking. It's never gonna happen. People aren't going to give up meat for a theory.
