Beautiful greyhound Isis turned 5 in November. She is an ex-racing dog adopted from the former Seabrook Race Track in New Hampshire. When she was first adopted her she had never been in a house, seen a bicycle or even a dog of another breed. Her family has worked hard to socialize her over the last 3 years and although she is still a bit people shy, she is now a fairly confident dog. It took her 6 months to learn to play with a toy! She loves her green stuffed pepper and her squeaky duck. It was 2 years before she learned to climb the stairs. Now there is no stopping her. She runs up and down all day long carrying her bones and toys back and forth. Isis shares the home with two feline brothers, Ben and Charlie. For the most part they get along very well.

Brutus is a pitt lab mix and he is 16 years old now. He is a super sweet old dog, but back in the day he was a bit of a bruiser. He liked to carry logs, fetch sticks up and down the canyons of Los Angeles and go wave jumping at the beach. He’s had a long, happy life and he’s put up with a lot of funny outfits. This reindeer outfit is from when he was around 7 or 8 years old.

Bella is 2 years old, rescued and adored. She gets along with everyone and all kinds of animals as well. Her favorite things to do are lay on the couch, run with the other dogs and play tug with us. She acts human-like on any given day and seems to be thinking hard all the time. Bella lives with her family and other animals, dogs, cat, goats and horses on a small farm in Washington state.

Zoey is about 6 months old and adopted by nine-year-old Gracie two months ago. (She was rescued from a shelter at 3 weeks old– they were planning to euthanize her and her siblings.) Zoey has two tabby kitty siblings and they all get along great!

Bailey with antlers under the Christmas tree. Doesn’t he look a bit like Max from The Grinch Who Stole Christmas? Adorable! (Thanks Ned!)

This is Louie, also called Gooey Louie, according to Louie’s mom Debi Kittle, because he drools in her hair when he cuddles and ‘makes biscuits’ on her shoulder. He is a very loving Siamese mix, and is also polydactyl–he has extra thumbs on his front paws! Debi works at the Greenville Humane Society and saw him come in with his two siblings and knew he had to come home with her. Louie is now a year-and-a-half old.

Cleo and Leia from Yardley, Pennsylvania.

Newfoundland dogs belong in the Working Group and are truly happiest when given a job to do. Three-year-old Katie is no exception. She is a certified therapy dog who stays busy with frequent visits to our local Hospice center, nursing homes and Easter Seals. Katie is also a draft dog and took last Saturday off from her therapy work to pull a few friends around in her little red wagon. -Charity Dennington & Wilbon’s Katie Scarlett O’Hara “Katie”, CGC (Canine Good Citizen), TDI (Therapy Dogs Intl) and RA (Rally Advanced Obedience)

Henry is 5 years old and lives in Kansas City, MO. He is FIV positive, but has a strong spirit and loves to cuddle and hide under blankets. He is not very tolerant of dressing up, but managed to stay still for five minutes, long enough for Rebekah to dress him up in his reindeer costume and capture his disgruntled expression. He crouched in a corner and refused to move until she took it off. His cat brother, Rupert, 2 years old, (next page) was slightly more accommodating, when trying it on.

Rupert, Henry’s sibling.

Spirit is a 10 year-old Cocker Spaniel from Farmingdale, New Jersey, who still looks and acts like a puppy! She loves whipped cream and comes running as soon as she hears the can, and goes crazy when you sing the “C is for Cookie” Cookie Monster song (because she knows that this means she will be getting a treat!). She loves to get dressed up, and even wears a rain coat outside when its raining to keep her fur nice and dry! -Autumn (Spirit’s mom)

This is our fur baby, Mr. Rutgar. He was a rescue that was living in an abusive environment. He has a physical deformity from birth, twisted front legs, that very likely would have kept him from finding a good home or even reaching adulthood… but he found us. He is now 4 years old and we love him to bits. Despite his odd front legs, he’s doing very well and can run and jump with the best of them. Nothing seems to slow him down. He has an amazing and indomitable spirit. -P’Emily Youngreen from Kaslo, BC

While nothing is cuter than a dog wearing a costume, I wonder what the dogs would say if they could speak English?

I'm torn with these pictures. They're cute but I hate it when people dress up their pets. I guess a hat or reindeer ears for a few minutes, enough time to snap a couple of pictures, isn't so bad.

cute but I would never put any outfits or costumes on my pets. I don't even make them wear collars so they feel all natural.
