Decode Your Body Language

Decode Your Body Language

Many people believe that our bodies send us clear and important messages every moment, if only we would pay attention.

The Apaches, for example, take this “body language” very seriously, noting involuntary signs such as sneezing, muscular twitching, or tearing of the eyes and connecting these body signs with inward states of being and outward events.

Here is a simple, fun exercise to try so you can begin to decode your own body’s language: uncover the messages your body wants to tell you!

1. For two or three days, pay close attention to your body.

2. Watch for any involuntary signs.

3. Pay attention to how these can be seen as symbols of other things going on in your life.

4. Watch for what occurs in the period of time following these signs.

5. Anything unusual?

6. Is there a pattern? For example, are there things that occur every time you get a twitch?

7. Make a list of these occurrences and follow them through for a month.

My face gives away what I am thinking long before my body gets involved. I could never have succeeded as a poker player.

how do you decode?

Before I got a higher speed internet connection, it took a long time to load a video, so I could watch peoples faces change as they expressed themselves on the film. One of the funniest ones I ever saw was a fundamentalist preacher. Polititions are pretty amuseing too.Beyond the distorted facial signals, our body also picks up the feeling emminating from people. You can tell when people are throwing verbal daggers at you, or manipulating with a honey coated tougue. Those who like to gossip think it does no harm, but if you're the recipient of it, you know it feels awful .It's basically discounting someones existence and over-laying it with your own opinion.Bullying and ridiculing can drive young people to suicide so do not discount the power of the way your words and intent can make people feel.Somebody gives you 'the finger'? It's like an energy level spit in the face. Our bodies register everything at lightening speed, but consciously some times you may not know what it's picked up till later.

As I studied and advanced in the work of Recovery Support, I learned, the body doesn't lie.

When it matters, I pay more attention to body language than to words. I trust body language more. However, I've heard that expert liars control their body and eye movements, so I like amateur bs'ers best.
