Regardless of what type of toys are out in the stores, this is a free country and people will purchase what they want regardless of warnings, but for the rest of us, we must be responsible parents and animaml owners to protect our children and pets. We have to be the "police, inspectors, the lawyers and our own reperesentatives to keep our children and pets safe. I am very cautious about what and where I will buy a new dog toy. For the most part I just stray away from things with paint and other toxic coatings on things.
Just try to be a good dog handler...

Has anyone looked at the Toy Recall website???

Thanks to 8 years of inanity, we have this mess to clean up. I can only imagine the cost of these recalls to the taxpayer, let alone to the landfills where they have to dispose of all this crap. We'll be paying for these repercussions from the shrub years, thanks to those who voted for him TWICE, for years to come.

I try to buy made in America; Laura is right, it keeps Americans employeed. It is really hard to find needed things though. I used to be able to find socks made in America, so hard now! I think out of about 50 pairs I looked at only one was so I bought it!!!

My children are grown, but my nieces & nephews are not. Even for my dogs I only buy toys and food made in the USA. I even check my New Balance sneakers and only buy ones made in the USA. It might cost a few dollars more but keeps an American employed and us a lot safer! I can't expect the government to check every imported item, so I do the best to keep my family and loved ones safe.

Please realize that I'm not making light of the situation, but don't parents have the option of deciding if a toy looks like it has small moving or removable parts. If you have a child that is of an age that still puts things in its mouth, then don't buy the product.
Most toys are age specific, and we as mothers, should be checking the toy thouroughly before buying it.
When my daughters were small, there were no toy recalls, or even very many warnings, and yet our children were not harmed by their toys. We always scrutinized the toy and the packaging pretty carefully, and if there were any chance of small parts did not purchase it.
No matter how many regulations you put on a toy company regarding their product, the final decision is ours to decide on whether it looks safe for our child or not.

I'm all for avoiding toys made in China or sweatshops, but we cannot always expect the government or someone else to keep our kids safe. We make the decision what to buy or make for our children, and it's up to us to supervise what our children do with the toys. I always enjoyed making all-natural toys with my children, but none of them would have been considered safe enough to sell to others!

As a mother of a two & 1/2 yr old I am amazed that these toys make it into our homes. Someone is not doing their job!!! But that I suppose on it's own is of course not a surprise. We have become accustomed to mediocrity as the norm and most accept this as ok. I do not.
I also look for toys that are not made in China and that are not made of "All New Materials". I hope more people wise up and more of these toys are made available at a more affordable price. Thank you for your coverage of this issue. I appreciate the info and the comments.

You are completely right Margaret about products made in China. This past year we have decided to not purchase toys made in China, and it is difficult to find them. We have discovered some smaller stores who seem to be more concerned about consumer and worker safety.
