DIY Bead Making

There are a lot of different ways and materials with which you can make your own jewelry. This is a technique my grandma taught me as a kid, which I used to made a variety of necklaces and tassels with. It’s fun, easy, and only takes a few simple materials.

Magazine pages
Glue stick
Round toothpick

Using your ruler on a magazine page of your choice (something with a wide variety of patterns and colors or maybe just text, this is where you can get creative) draw out an isosceles triangle (both sides are of equal length) with a one inch base.
Cut the shape out with your scissors and cover the back side with glue. Be sure to leave a little space at the wide end so that the paper does not stick to the toothpick.
Begin rolling the wide end around the toothpick and roll the rest of the page into the glue side. You probably will have to hold the tip down for a second when you get to the end to make sure the glue dries properly.
Pull the toothpick out and you have your own paper bead ready to go!
From here you can make more playing with size and color. If you want to make it last, you can spray the beads with clear Krylon spray paint or even coat them in clear nail polish.

Great! Thanks for the info.
A couple of months ago my great-niece wanted a paper doll. I made one and showed her how to make her own. She was giddy with excitement. Small

As a quilling artist this was one of my first experiences with using paper. If you want to see more things you can create with paper just put paper crafts or quilling into your search engine.

Thanks for a reminder from one of the readers who commented on paper dolls. I had quite forgotten about all the fun and creativity the activity of making pretty clothing was as a small child....
