5 DIY Ways to Spoil Your Dog

Homemade Dog Shampoo

5. Homemade Dog Shampoo

If your dog loathes baths like Jenna does, dog shampoo might not seem like much of a treat. True, your dog might not love a bath while it’s happening, but dogs like to be clean. Being smelly bums them out.

Store-bought dog shampoos are expensive, and they’re often full of artificial fragrances and other mystery ingredients, so I was thrilled to run across this recipe for homemade, natural dog shampoo! To make this as healthy as possible, choose an eco-friendly, fragrance free dish soap, since this will be kindest on your pup’s skin. You can also add a few drops (3-5) of lavender essential oil to the mix, if you like! Lavender oil is a soothing scent for dogs, so it does double duty in a wash: calms her down during bathing and leaves her smelling like flowers when you’re done!

Have you guys done any crafting for your pups? I’d love to hear about what you’ve made to treat your dogs in the comments!

strange...why has my post on another article appeared here?! o well.

i have a cook book for my dog-does quite a few treats, biscuits etc and came with a bone shaped cutter; it also does a few 'meals' and desserts as well! got it from 99p shop [uk] what you'd probably call a 'thrift' shop mebbe? a shop that sells stuff at a cheaper rate than the usual shops basically.

i have modified baby tshirts for my little 'un for the cold days/nights and made covers for his pillows in his basket so each week he has a clean one to dirty up!

No, you are not the only person in the world that feels this way about animal costumes; I loathe them with a passion. But functional clothing is different. My old greyhound feels the cold, being a typical greyhound, skin and bone and very short, fine hair. On cold nights she sleeps in a big man's jumper and then I can sleep without feeling guilty.
Re the sweet potato cookies; I reckon if I made them I would probably eat half of them myself; they sound delish.

I loved this article even though I don't have a dog (if I could, the place would be full of them). I've done some of these things for my cat, Ruby, though. She has a little pink quilted house filled with sheepskin. She has her own recliner, next to mine, complete with heating pad under a thick, fur throw.
She sleeps with me every nite. Today it's 15 degrees below zero wind chill and I have down-filled blankets, covered by a heated throw. I throw my thick, fur robe over the electric throw...on top of the robe is Ruby, snug as a bug in a rug...dug in like a little tick.

Absolutely NEVER give onions to your dog. As someone else mentioned, it can cause anemia, but it is also gassy, which can be painful for them.

I've made my own dog food for several years due to allergies. I cook up a huge batch and put it in zip bags, lay them out flat and store them in my freezer. I get right at a month's worth. My dog is extremely healthy and her coat is "remarkably shiny" (quoting our vet). She never has a problem with gas, or bloating, There have been 2 occasions though, when I was unable to spend the day cooking up a new batch and had to grab a few cans of commercial dog food at the store. Within 24 hours, she had issues with gas and didn't want to do anything but lay around. Since then, I've made sure I never let her supply run out. Please fully research before trying any recipe and always ask your vet before trying anything new.
