Ellen DeGeneres was in an LA furniture store recently, where she saw a kitten in poor condition. Sadly, the other two kittens from the abandoned litter had already died. The store owner let Ellen take the kitten, so she took it to an animal hospital and paid for its care. After the kitten was well enough, she took it home and helped it recover further.
When the kitten was healthy she asked the animal sanctuary The Gentle Barn if they could help find someone to adopt it. The group quickly posted a photo of the kitten to their Facebook page in hopes of finding a home for the kitten in the Los Angeles area. Ellen named the cat Ridiculous, because of her ridiculous cuteness.
DeGeneres has previously supported The Gentle Barn, which is one of her favorite charities. In March of this year, Justin Bieber appeared on Ellen’s show gifting her with a lock of his hair, which eventually sold on eBay for $40,000. The money was donated to The Gentle Barn. Last May, DeGeneres presented The Gentle Barn with a $50,000 donation from the digital media company Tonic. ” ‘It’s pretty remarkable. Ellen is just so amazing to be supporting us like she is. But on the flipside, the fact that there’s people out there who are willing to pay this kind of money for a piece of hair, I don’t know what to say to that,’ said Gentle Barn founder Ellie Laks. A great article. Ellen seems like a fairly down-to-earth person who sincerely tries to do good.
I hope Ellen also gives her own money!
That is awesome!!! Good for Ellen for using her money, fame, and influence to help animals. It's totally creepy that someone paid $40,000 for a lock of hair - but YAY that the money went to a shelter!
Ridiculous is so cute!!!! Ellen has more willpower than me. I would have to keep the kitty after all that!!!
What a gentle soul - Ellen!
Good for Ellen. In 20 yrs. whoever bought Bieber's lock will take a look at it and go "what did I buy this for?" It is mindboggling that someone would pay that kind of money for a bit of hair but not give the money to charity. Anyway, the money ended up in a good place and I hope Ellen keeps supporting these folks and the critters.
Ellen, you ROCK!
Thank you Ellen.
