Approximately 1,500 people and one dog attended the funeral of Navy SEAL Petty Officer 1st Class Jon Tumilson, who was one of several Americans killed in Afghanistan earlier this month, when the helicopter was shot down. Jon’s faithful Labrador, Hawkeye, lied by his side one last time, but this time there was no warm hand to reach out and gently pet him. Instead, he was lying by the Navy SEAL’s casket, draped in an American flag. Apparently, nobody placed him there, Hawkeye just walked up to the casket, lied down with a sigh, and mourned, along with Jon’s family, friends, and community members of Rockford, Iowa.
The faithful canine companion now has a new home with Tumilson’s friend Scott Nichols. Dogster reported that Hawkeye is very familiar with Nichol’s home, as he would spend months at a time there when Tumilson was deployed. Scott and Hawkeye will most likely help each other heal the pain of their enormous loss.

Sorry for the loss of this wonderful & brave soldier!!
Thank you soldier Tumilson for giving your ALL
moving
this made me cry.
Let's hope he is familiar with the people so he doesnt mourn for long. I had a dog die of a broken heart, as did my Daddy when he went off to WW2.

Awwww!!!!
So sad
There is nothing new revealed by this story. There are people who believe that dogs don't have feelings, but that's FALSE. Like people, they feel pain and experience grief. The only difference is they can't speak a human language, however, they have their own way of communicating.
This made me cry. So touching.
Oh, he just missed his human companion so much.....I'm glad Hawkeye has another home to go to. Thank you Scott for giving Hawkeye a home.....And last, but not least, thank you to Jon Tumilson for being such a good friend and companion to Hawkeye.....RIP.
