A convicted heroin addict has been arrested for pretending to be a veterinarian. She faces a 33 criminal count indictment in Akron Ohio. Five of those counts are for animal cruelty and five are for injuring animals. She also was charged with identity fraud and practicing without a license.
The accused woman is alleged to have treated pets at C&D Animal Hospital, though she has no formal training, nor a license. One cat she tried to declaw had to be euthanized, because the procedure was botched so badly. A dog she admitted to the animal care facility and treated, died several days later. She also spayed cats and neutered one dog. Blood drawing and prescriptions are also on the list of allegations. The illegal and fraudulent behavior lasted for about six months. Some customers became suspicious because she only accepted cash and made change for payments from her car. They also noticed she wore street clothes and there were no professional credentials for her posted in plain view for customers to see.
The accused was not even a veterinary technician, but merely an office worker who presented herself as knowledgeable to customers so she could get their money, which she used to buy heroin.
The clinic’s owner left the woman in charge while away, so she allegedly proceeded to run it to benefit herself. She pleaded not guilty and is waiting for a hearing.
