All-natural aromatherapy grooming begins with the addition of essential oils to an all-natural soap or shampoo base. The key here is that the ingredients be natural. Take the time to find a truly all-natural soap or shampoo, or create your own using the following recipe.
Shampoo Base
This is an exceedingly gentle, generously foaming soap shampoo base that makes an unscented shampoo base, to which you can add your essential oils.
4.5 oz. hot distilled water
3.2 oz. Decylc Polyglucose (found in pet stores)
½ teaspoon xanthan gum powder (found in health food stores)
½ teaspoon cider vinegar
1 ml. grapefruit seed extract
These ingredients are simple to combine into an all-natural shampoo base for your dog. You can even use this base recipe to create shampoos for yourself.
Combine all the ingredients but the xanthan gum in the blender. While the mixture is still very warm, add the xanthan gum powder and blend until uniform. Let cool, add essential oils and you now have your own all-natural shampoo.
Flea Repelling Addition
Add the following essential oils to 8 oz of all-natural shampoo base (above):
2 drops Geranium essential oil
2 drops Rosewood essential oil
3 drops Lavender essential oil
2 drops Myrrh essential oil
2 drops Opoponax essential oil
1 drop Bay Leaf essential oil
