4 Potentially Dangerous Holiday Decorations

  • 3 of 5

Mistletoe (Phoradendron species) is a favorite decoration for encouraging a kiss between sweethearts during the holidays. Few are aware that eating just a few berries can result in vomiting, diarrhea and moderate stomach and intestinal pain. In severe cases there may be labored breathing, dramatically lowered blood pressure, and heart failure. Make sure you keep the mistletoe hanging high and out of the reach of kids or pets.

Don't bring these things into your house than you won't have to worry if someone/thing gets sick.

Tinsel is another dangerous decoration. Cats are especially vulnerable to this one since they love to chase shiny, string-y things. The tinsel can actually perforate the intestines so I'd suggest using a thick ribbon or perhaps bows to decorate the tree. Nancy P made an excellent point about being aware of what your guests are up to! They may unintentionally bring in a bouquet that has toxic plants/flowers or they may feed your pet or child something that isn't good for them (unknowingly of course), or they may just accidentally drop it on the carpet! Kind of makes me glad I'm not having any guests over this Christmas.

Well I guess there are other compelling reasons to not eat fast food other than it really is nothing…

Thanks for posting.

Cannot stop catalogs, I tried- recycle them.

This sounds just a bit too new agey for me, sorry.

All good. Thank you.
