Fresh Ways to Accessorize

Fresh Ways to Accessorize

Look far beyond the framed photo the next time you need to spruce up a room. Many of these unique, do-it-yourself art ideas put a new spin on the way simple, organic pieces are used, adding new dimension to blank walls and the spaces they enclose.

Above: Bring the seaside indoors: flat beach stones aligned along a mantel make for peaceful decor.

Above: We love the use interesting use of particle boards that interior designer and stylist, Maria Helgstrand, incorporated into her Copenhagen home.

Above: No longer just for above, ceiling medallions also impress on walls.

Above: Showcase some interesting frames by including a piece of glass instead of a painting or photo. As shown in this home seen in Time Out Chicago (left), and this loft by Qb3 Design, the look is clean and minimal and brings a reflection of light into a space.

Above: The ultimate organic home accessory: natural tree branches. This affordable element results in a serene moment in any room.

Thank you - it appears that I am pretty trendy, because I have used all of the options given with the exception of the particle boards. For the frames - I display frames in frames according to color and design, it looks really great in a foyer or dining room.

I like using natural things in decorating. I use rocks to give dimension to objects on shelves.

Looks great unfortunately, any time I try something else, I always end up with my favorite cat knicks knacks coming back out of the boxes.....:)

I really like the beach stones on the mantle, so simple yet so effective. Just shows what we can do with a little imagination. :)
