Garden Party: Win Three Books!

Do you make lovely gifts from the bounty of your garden? If you have ideas to share, the August monthly contest at The Oldest, Largest Garden Party in America’s History is up and running–this month’s theme: The Best Ideas for Giving Gifts from The Garden. If you haven’t read about the Garden Party, it is an online event hosted by Dr. Brent and Beekman 1802 (Dr. Brent’s farm in Schoharie County, NY). It is happening continuously over the 2009 gardening season, with the goal of inspiring backyard gardeners, and created as a place for people across the country to share gardening tips and passions with one another. Each month there are wonderful prizes for the best tips submitted–winning submissions are chosen by some of the most noted gardeners in America.

The August contest is being judged by Suzy Bales. Suzy had her own weekly gardening column in Newsday for two years before joining Family Circle as their contributing garden editor for twelve years. She wrote a column for The New York Times for a year before joining Better Homes & Gardens as the Senior Editor for Gardening and Outdoor Living from 2004 until early 2007. She has been featured in Ladies Home Journal, House Beautiful, Better Homes and Gardens, Horticulture, Beautiful Gardens, and Easy Gardening. Suzy delights in sharing her garden with friends and family. In her book, Garden Parties she inspires fancifully fun parties that transform outdoor spaces into enchanting playgrounds for the sense–the plants, the decor, and the food intermingle to create truly memorable themes.

So what’s at stake here? The prize: Signed copies of Suzy’s last three books: Down to Earth Gardener, Garden Parties, and The Garden in Winter! Visit the Garden Party website and leave your tip in the comment field. (We’d love to see your tip in the Care2 comments as well, but make sure to enter them at the Garden Party site to be eligible for the prize.) Good luck, and happy garden gifting!

Oops, last one - dried lavender for sachets and some sprinklings inside letters/cards.

Also seeds from my herbs as gifts.

I grow herbs so I make (dried) herb rubs for gifts. I also make herb salads for potluck parties.

My garden includes pecan trees in my backyard. One year, people would pull up in their cars in front of my house, and ask to pick up pecans that had fallen to the ground. There were so many pecans, it was easy to share! :)

I use my garden bounty as hostess or dinner party gifts. I try to combine items that pair together well, or would be an automatic dish or salad, such as fresh tomatoes & basil.

Cool! Right in my backyard practically ;-)
Time to put my thinking cap on (broad-brimmed, of course)
