Gift Guide for the Energy-Conscious Consumer

‘Tis the season for giving and receiving, and if you’re a procrastinating last-minute shopper like me, chances are you’re looking for a little help this week!  Well, I have good news.  If visions of electronics and appliances are dancing in your head, new consumer guide TopTen USA is here to help.

The new nonprofit’s website provides free lists of the ten most energy efficient products available in the US in a range of categories—from computers and flatscreen televisions to refrigerators and vehicles.  You go on the site, click on the product category you want, and tada!  Energy advice from the experts.

The products that make it onto TopTen USA’s lists are so efficient that swapping out an old product for one of these can cut your energy use and costs by about two thirds. Saving green by going green?  Your wallet and the environment will thank you.

TopTen USA’s website allows you to sort each product list by energy efficiency or by price, and you can also access an individual product’s pricing and availability at online retailers as well as local brick and mortar stores.  Best of all, after entering your zip code, you can look up eco rebate information in your area for a given product, and can even click through to download the necessary forms.  It doesn’t get any easier than that!

Do the people on your list and your energy-conscious conscience a favor by consulting TopTen USA this year.  Santa, I hope you’re reading this.
