First… what’s a chakra?
Chakras are measurable patterns of electromagnetic activity and centers for the reception, assimilation and transmission of life energies.
Each chakra is associated with a color, a sound/note and a part of the body. The seven major chakras run along the spinal cord. They can become out of balance or out of tune over time with emotional and/or physical trauma.
The first chakra is the root chakra.
This energy center of the body sits at the base of the spine and is associated with “grounding” onto the Earth. The color associated with this chakra is red.
When it’s open and spinning freely, a person will feel empowered with strength and vitality. If the chakra has been closed or disrupted, a person may feel a great deal of fear and not trust the Divine Guidance all around them.
Tone your chakra!
Toning is utilizing the power of the voice by making a vibration with long sustained sounds. The vibrations of these sounds reverberate in a way that is penetrating and can rebalance a chakra that is not functioning at full potential.
Because our bodies are 55-65 percent water, it’s a great conduit for sound vibration, therefore making toning a very effective and powerful way to rebalance the chakra system.
The first chakra is associated with the sound “ooooo” (a soft o). This energy center of the body sits at the base of the spine and is associated with “grounding” onto the Earth and when it is open and spinning freely, a person will feel empowered with strength and vitality. If your chakra is out of balance or disrupted, you may not feel safe in your immediate environment or in the world at large.

For me, grounding and being centered on the Earth used to be a deep challenge.
I had a million ideas, profound amounts of energy and no way to focus it all. As I became more clear in my spiritual practice, I learned to ground my energy to the Earth which gave me a way to focus. Before then, I was an intense bolt of lightning, striking every which way. Still a bolt of lightening, but I can direct it now.
Now, when I center onto the Earth, I can feel her magnetic grid and her life force melding with mine. The power that our Mother Earth emanates moving through my body reminds me of my physical sustenance. I can call on that power throughout my day when I must focus my thoughts and intentions on a project or desire or even while helping a friend through a challenging situation.
Try it yourself! Create a grounding ritual and see how it effects your day.
Use that ritual when you have to make a decision or start a new project and see how focused you become and how easily you can move toward your goal. Our Earth is our physical life force. She is more than something that we live on, she is a living entity that we want to be in communion with and the first chakra is our doorway…
