Healing Salt Crystals

Adapted from “The Herbal Home Spa” by Greta Breedlove (Story Books, 1998).

The easy-to-find ingredients for this wonderful bathing mixture help to relieve soreness and aching joints and muscles. Soothing and relaxing, Healing Salt Crystals draw out impurities from your body and deodorize, too!

With many of the healing properties of a seaside spa, this formula is perfect for the day after a strenuous workout, or for any time you need a little healing time-out. If you can’t get away to the beach, you can at least relax in a tub with these lovely crystals.

INGREDIENTS
1 cup borax
2 cups Epsom salts
½ cup coarse sea salt
¼ cup baking soda
¼ cup white clay
½ cup dried lavender
10 drops lavender essential oil

1. In a large bowl, mix together the borax, salts, baking soda, and clay, then mix in the dried lavender, stirring with a wire whisk.

2. Scent the mixture with the oil, mixing well with the whisk. Cover the bowl with a towel and leave overnight to fix the scent.

3. In the morning, thoroughly mix again and package in jars, zip-seal or muslin bags, or envelopes.

To Use: Add ¼ to ½ cup healing salt crystals to a tubful of warm water.

is it true that if you use epsom salt you'll be able to flush your gallstone out? anybody can replay. thank you.

Mayette Santos

I received an email saying that epsom salt can be used in removing gallstone. Can you help me verify if this is true? see below

REMOVING GALLSTONES NATURALLY
by Dr Lai Chiu-Nan

It has worked for many. If it works for you please pass on the good news. Chiu Nan is not charging for it, so we should make it free for everyone.. Your reward is when someone, through your word of mouth, benefits from the regime. Gallstones may not be everyone's concern. But they should be because we all have them. Moreover, gallstones may lead to cancer. "Cancer is never the first illness," Chiu Nan points out. "Usually, there are a lot of other problems leading to cancer.

In my research in China, I came across some materials which say that people with cancer usually have stones. We all have gallstones. It's a matter of big or small, many or few.

One of the symptoms of gallstones is a feeling of bloatedness after a heavy meal. You feel like you can't digest the food. If it gets more serious, you feel pain in the liver area." So if you think you have gallstones, Chiu Nan offers the following method to remove them naturally.

The treatment is also good for those with a weak liver, because the liver and gallbladder are closely linked.

Regimen:
1. For the first five days, take four glasses of apple juice every day. Or eat four or five apples, whichever you prefer. Apple juice softens the gallstones. During the five days, eat normally.
2. On the sixth day, take no dinner.

I would think not at all, Kourtney. When I asked my original question, I was trying to find out if, by absorption through the skin, the salts could increase blood pressure. No one yet has been willing or able to address this, but that was about SOAKING, not ingestion. Ingesting too much thru the gastrointestinal tract, could,I imagine, cause dehydration, as its uses include relief for constipation ,or as a general ingredient for a good, quick colon cleanse. You should not EVER try this without a doctor's supervision, OR unless you know your body well enough. In my opinion, a good cleanse, which includes not just two or three tablespoons of salts but 1/2 cup of olive oil, in 8 ounces of water, with a twist of lemon or lime (to make the taste more bearable), is a good self-help tool for the body. There are both weaker and stronger recipes for the above recipe deoending upon your weight and particular situation, but in any case, plan to be near a restroom within about 2 or 3 feet from wherever you happen to be ( my suggestion is that you stay at home until you are sure the toxins are out of your system, which, depending on how much you mix, could take as long as 12 hours. Also, have a good deal of electrolyte-laden beverages, like Gatorade,on hand,in case you start cramping and/or feeling nausea. It is a quite good method of clearing yourself of toxins, and it leaves you feeling almost giddy once all the bad "stuff" is out, but is not for the faint of heart.
Good luck!

However true your statement about Borax is, Lind P, my original question had nothing to do with Borax, but with Epsom salts. But I imagine anything in excess is toxic, and the above soak seems perfectly reasonable to me.

On this same site borax is said to be toxic -- why one earth would one soak in a mixture with it?!
