Sometimes it’s a matter of life and death. For 5 days, in the spring of 2006, a small group of friends comforted and supported a friend battling drug addiction who was denied entrance to rehab. Her story and theirs became the impetus for creating To Write Love On Her Arms, a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide.
Today, with rock star-like personas, the organization’s leaders travel the world promoting their message, and in true superstar fashion, empower millions of TWLOHA fans to help spread the word. That includes the Heavy and Light Concert which took place in Orlando, FL. The evening of songs, conversation, and hope featured some of indie-music’s biggest names including Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional and David Bazan of Pedro the Lion.
This December TWLOHA was awarded a $1 million grant from the American Giving Awards. A portion of the funds will go directly into treatment and recovery.
You can support TWLOHA in a variety of ways. Start a fundraiser, like a 5k, in your own community, and TWLOHA will work with you to ensure its success. Become a Street Team member, spreading TWLOHA news and sharing upcoming events with the public, earning points redeemable at the TWLOHA store. Wear the Love. Wear a TWLOHA tee—sold at Ron Jons, Hot Topic, and the onlineTWLOHA store.
Spark the conversation today. Share hope.
