Before putting your tree in a stand.

Cut a slice off the butt.

When the tree was cut, sap sealed the cut, so it won't take water like it needs to to stay hydrated.

Good advice. We do not ask a tree to die for us to decorate it. We do not do artificial trees.

We do not decorate -- we spend money normally spent on such things to donate to charity.

We also have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen!
