Looking into the flames of a campfire seems to put us in a sort of trance that burns away the inconsequential and opens us up to others. It is around campfires, looking into the flames, that we tend to have memorable conversations that matter, stories with messages and reminders about what doesn’t belong and is not needed. Remember the fun at the fires of one’s childhood?
Here are some resources so you can have a real fire in your yard anytime you want this summer, in a way that is safe from fear of sparks flying to ignite a fire.
These free-standing screened fire units are the safest way to go. They are also called patio hearths, outdoor fireplaces, chimeneas, and fire rings.

Thanks for the article.
This is not a good idea with climate change right now. We need to find clean ways of burning and deforestation is a major cause also of climate change / global warming. Your sending massive c02 up into the atmosphere and adding onto an already very serious problem on this planet. When the earth is stable I'd love to do this but right now it is not a good idea at all. We have to reduce what we do and cutting down trees to burn is not a good idea. We need more trees not less and a CLEAN way of burning them as well.
Thanks for the info. It´s useful to know how to make a fire safe
Those tailgates off of utility trailers, the ones with the steel mesh grids welded to them, made the absolute greatest fire platform for us. We used four short logs for legs, put the tailgate/grate on top and had the most fun fires we have ever had. If you have never had a chance to have a large fire pit. It is not only great if you clear your property of overgrowth, but is such fun.
If you are lucky enough to have or find big rocks you can dig a hole in the ground then stack the rocks around the outside. It looks great and works wonderfully. We have friends always want to come over all year round just to sit by the fire and chat.
i live in a rural area too and that sounds like a cool...no, hot idea...where do you find old tractor parts?
I live in a rural area, so our most popular & inexpensive firepits are homemade from old tractor rims. They make great firepits, & disperse the heat evenly, besides being very attractive and nearly cost free.
Thanks for the info :)
