If You Were a Real Vampire You Would Eat This

If You Were a Real Vampire You Would Eat This

There are some people who really, truly believe they are vampires – and not just on Halloween. According to the website Real Vampire, real vampires exist and there are a number of unique characteristics that these vampires share including having a dark ring around the iris, glassy nails that are particularly strong and pronounced psychic abilities. Vampires are also emphatically not vegetarians.

Real vampires are able, they claim, to safely digest more than 600% of the daily recommended dose of iron when in blood form. And yes, they really drink blood. Human blood. If they can find a healthy, willing donor. If not, they feed (their term not mine) on a combination of raw, rare and cooked meat as well as pure blood from a variety of animals. Below, are two blood-intensive recipes from the website Real Vampire, that if you were a real vamp, you just might serve for dinner.

Veriohukaiset (Blood Pancakes)

  • 1 3/4 cup pork blood
  • 1 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 3/4 cup rye flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp dark molasses
  • 1/2 -1 tsp salt
  • pinch of pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon of dried marjoram
  • 1 small onion
  • butter

1. Thaw blood overnight, if frozen.

2. Mince onion and saute in butter until translucent. Let cool.

3. Strain blood into bowl.

4. Whisk blood and milk together.

5. Add molasses, salt, pepper and marjoram.

6. Slowly whisk in the flour and stir until the mixture is smooth.

7. Add the sauteed onion.

8. Cover the batter and let sit for an hour, so the flour will swell.

9. Heat frying pan until sizzling.

10. Butter the pan generously. Pour first batch of pancakes either large or small.

11. Continue until batter is finished.

12. Serve your blood pancakes hot with cranberry sauce or lingonberry jam.

I eat meat ... I eat beef steaks rare ... I AM NOT A VAMPIRE and I am as Earth friendly as they come. I am real. I was raised eating meat at every meal except Fridays (Catholic) ... there is nothing wrong with eating meat. Being sensitive to how animals are raised and slaughtered (not a bad term, but a term used when referring to the killing of animals for food) is something I am aware of and learn about. When it becomes wrong to choose NOT to be a vegan I will then RUSH away from this site. You don't have to be vegan to care about our planet that we ALL share. As for vampires ... its a fad ... and there IS a legitimate disease that mimics the signs of vampirism. Those affected are not vampires in the fictional sense though ...

well then at least their victims are willing, plenty of animals don't have a choice in it.

There are no "real" human vampires, apart from the nasty people who act like bloodsucking monsters.

Reading this a bit late, but I have got to ask - why on earth would anyone want to be a vampire? I've seen real vampire bats (in the Amazon) and even rescued one, but they are smelly -and their poo is disgusting. They have ugly faces and worse - no one on the planet likes them.... so again??? Why would anyone want to be a vampire?

A good idea Karen M. To be honest, I have never met anyone engaging in this activity and I imagine that very few people have met people like this. Paul C, somehow I don’t see an article like this ‘encouraging’ this behaviour or even suggesting that it is somehow ‘cool’. Seriously, I doubt if you have met anyone engaging in this activity either, most of us never will. It’s highly unlikely that many Care2 members will read this and suddenly think that it’s so ‘cool’ that they will have a sudden desire to try it out for ourselves. Some may well try out the recipes, many won’t. In parts of Europe these recipes are fairly common. Looking at one of the links, I have to admit that I had never heard of Finnish Blood Bread. Learn something new every day it seems.

Today is Hallowe'en. For those taking part, have a safe and fascinating time and watch out for things that go bump in the night.

Krish A, why are you saying “sadly, I’m not” a real vampire? Fascinating and intriguing. Carol C, I would gather that there are some self-employed vampires out there. Cindi S, why doesn’t an article on vampires belong on Care2? A lot of people like the spooky side and many Care2 members eat meat. From what was written these human vampires get their 'donations' from other humans. I've never met vampire like humans, however.

Fascinating observation Catherine S, no doubt ‘they’ think that we are weird if we are not vampires. I never knew that about original licorice, jn J. Caili W, regarding cultural sensitivity, this is Hallowe’en and a lot of people tend to equate Hallowe’en with vampires and things that go bump in the night. Vegans and vegetarians may well consider killing animals as ‘short sighted’, but millions of people eat meat which won't change because some aren't into eating meat. People living in many climates especially if it is -50 are not going to be growing veggies. I didn’t read any comment that compared blood drinking vampires to vegans, perhaps I missed it, but certainly did not see any comment like that.

I am adding my opinion that someone needs to be found and "encouraged to spay and neuter" if this is…

ah, so that's my problem. too bad it doesn't qualify as workers comp for permanent damage.
