In Kruger National Park, an impala fleeing from two hungry cheetahs sees a literal window of opportunity and jumps into the car of an unsuspecting family on safari. All parties involved in this improbable scene must have been dumbstruck — the impala who barely escapes death in the oddest of ways, the cheetahs who are unclear as to where their lunch suddenly disappeared to and of course the family who found themselves suddenly harboring a terrified impala. The young women on safari who filmed the sequence were also dumbstruck as you can hear them squeal “It is in the car!” ”It is in the car!”
The boy in the back seat of the impala-saving car, who was perched on his window filming the incident, retained his wits during the chaos and quickly open the door. As soon as the door opened the impala shot out of the car probably completely bewildered as to what had just happened.
Considering all the possible situations that could have unfolded (impala refuses to exit the car… or the cheetah jumps into the car as well) it seems that what happened was the best case scenario.
And by the way, if you were feeling sorry for the hungry cheetahs who were cheated out of a meal (after all cheetahs must eat too), then you will be relieved to know that the same tourists saw the spotted felines in question dining on another impala just down the road.
