10 Great Twists on Lemonade (Slideshow)

 

Ah, lemonade — what’s more delightful than this summertime treat? Nothing beats the freshness of homemade, and getting to determine your own perfect ratio of lemon-sugar-water is ideal. But why stop at just those 3 ingredients? Indeed, there are several ways to liven up your classic lemonade. Click through to check out some of them.

Refreshing, light, and delicious!

1. Cucumber-Mint Lemonade

Ingredients:

  • 1 cucumber, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup packed mint
  • 1 cup freshly-squeezed lemon juice (about 10-12 lemons)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2-3 cups water (to taste)

Instructions:

1. Make simple syrup: bring sugar and 1 cup of water to a boil. Remove from heat when sugar dissolves. Let cool.
2. Combine cucumber and mint in a blender until smooth.
3. In a pitcher, combine simple syrup, cucumber-mint mixture, lemon juice and water. Serve with ice.

2. Honeydew Lemonade

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 10-12 lemons)
  • Zest of 2 lemons
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 6 cups honeydew melon, cut into 1-inch cubes (about 1 small melon)
  • 2-3 cups water (to taste)

Instructions:

Syrup:
In a small saucepan, bring lemon juice, zest, & sugar to a boil. Let simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the sugar is dissolved. Strain in a sieve to removes solids and set aside. Let syrup cool completely.

Lemonade:
In a blender, puree honeydew. Place honeydew juice and syrup in a blender and stir well. When ready to serve, add water.

3. Thyme & Blackberry Lemonade

Ingredients:

  • 1 bunch fresh thyme
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 cups blackberries
  • 2 cups freshly-squeezed lemon juice
  • 2-3 cups water (to taste)

Instructions:
1. Make simple syrup: bring sugar, thyme and 1 cup of water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Stir. Remove from heat when sugar dissolves. Strain into a pitcher to remove solids.
2. Place blackberries in pitcher and muddle with simple syrup.  Stir in lemon juice and water. Serve over ice. Enjoy!

4. Strawberry Jalapeno Lemonade

Ingredients:

  • 1 quart strawberries, hulled & cut into quarters
  • 1/2 jalapeņo, ribs & seeds removed, cut into 4 even pieces
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup freshly-squeezed lemon juice (about 10-12 lemons)
  • 3 cups water

Instructions:
1. In a medium bowl, combine strawberries, jalapeņo pepper, salt and sugar. Toss mixture to coat, and let it rest for about half an hour.
2. Take jalapeņo slices out of mixture and discard. Set aside 1 cup of the strawberry mixture to use as garnish.
3. Place strawberry mixture and lemon juice in a blender, blending until smooth on high speed. This should take about 1 minute. Strain mixture in a sieve into a pitcher. If any solids get into the pitcher, discard. Add the reserved berries and cold water to pitcher. Stir. Add ice. Serve!

Looks interesting, have certainly never tried these versions of lemonade.

The cucumber one looks to be cool and refreshing and I will try out the other ones as well.
