In hopes of keeping him active and stimulated, I decided to expand my canine household and recently adopted Georgina, a 17-month-old Black Labrador Retriever from Guide Dogs for the Blind. Gina (her new call name) has a very high drive and was not suited for guide dog work. The placement director at Guide Dogs thought that she’d excel in a performance sport, and I am so excited about starting an agility foundation class with her this week at ACE Dog Sports.
Even though Sanchez and Gina both were bred by Guide Dogs, they couldn’t possibly have more opposite personalities. Sanchez’s tag line is “It’s All About Me.” Gina’s is “It’s All About the Ball.” Since she couldn’t play ball when she was a guide dog puppy, maybe she’s just making up for lost time? If she could go to sleep at night with that green squeaky ball in her mouth, she would.
