Is Medicine Killing or Saving You?

Is medicine saving us- or killing us? Are doctors helping you- or harming you? Are you improving your health by taking prescription drugs- or are you decreasing your life expectancy?† Are you getting the medicine you really need? Do you even know what kind of medicine that is?

These are the questions I answer in my third TEDx talk, which I delivered live at TEDxFargo, which was organized by Fargo community leader and Whole Health Medicine Institute physician†Dr. Susan Mathison.

I had a meltdown on the plane on my way to Fargo because I knew what I would be discussing has the potential to be wildly controversial, and I wanted to ensure that my message was not misinterpreted by the very people I seek to serve- doctors and patients.† I reached out to one of my mentors and she talked me off the ledge with an email that guided me with exactly the advice I needed. I wound up rewriting my speech on the plane only one day before I gave the talk.

It is with a stomach full of butterflies and a wee bit of uneasiness Iím announcing this video today. Please tell me if you think I succeeded in gently but clearly illuminating what I think is a gigantic blind spot for both the medical establishment and the majority of patients who seek medical attention, without blaming or shaming either patients or doctors.

Love,

Continued...
This is my opinion in the comment but antidepressants are handed out like candy by any Doctor.I don't need them or take any.I wont ever. they are handed out for menopause, pain, fibro, everything under the sun... I am not against them and would never put someone down who really needs them.PLEASE don't feel I am saying that to people here that need them. They are just handed out for everything with no real evaluation. I can ask any Dr I see for antidepressants and no questions asked. One question. Why, for insurance reasons? That's it and I can get anyone I want too.
REMEMBER to really research, ask questions,go with your instincts and YOU do know your body. Pay attention to all signs.
Not for everything but for many things you can get away from not taking medciations or at least taking very short term so you don't get all the side effects and need more medication to help those. It can snowball believe me....
TY for the post/video!

Every person is different!!! You know your own body. You also should research and not just listen to what your Dr says. You need to work as a team and that can be hard. I don't have that personally. I highly suggest and just my own opinion that you always research, use your instincts also and you do know your body.

There are people that do need some medications and there's no way out of it.
I personally feel if you can get by or find options not to use medications or be overmedicated rather, then do it!!! Medications saved me and gave me quality of life many years ago and I could not have lived without them. Right now I am being ruined by some medications. I am cautious for a number of years to an extreme and i enever will take something just because a doctor says so..NEVER!! I do my research if I don't know the medication at all. I know a lot about my own body and many medications. I will always research and have rejected many. Right now I am being ruined by 2 medications longterm effects. I also am being harmed by refusing one type of medication I should be on . That's a long argument. I still wont do it at this time.

I personally believe mine is saving me more than hurting and/or killing me. I'd be a wreck without my daily morning meds!!!!

Medicine is a double edged sword.....You may take it to help one thing but end up with others or death..........
If you can get by without it...all the better...never good to put something foreign in your body...I believe if you don't pay for using medicine now....you will later....
