I’m amazed at the beautiful and thoughtful comments that are made by readers of my Care2 posts. Oh sure, there are a few cranks out there too, but most of the comments are obviously made by genuinely kind and caring people. And, I appreciate them. It’s wonderful to write articles in an effort to help people improve their health and then to hear back from them to learn that the articles are making a difference.
So, to thank all those readers who take the time to add insight, wisdom, or kindness in the form of comments on my articles, I’m giving away free copies of some of the health books I’ve written. Care2 will choose a lucky winner today. Good luck!
If you’re just joining us for the Kindness Revolution, I’m doing my part (well, at least trying) to spread kindness in the world by giving 29 gifts in 29 days, inspired by the book 29 Gifts. And, I’m asking you to join me. If you’re just tuning in, check out the first blog in this series.
And, don’t forget to add your comments to my blog over the next few weeks because, with the help of the kind people at Care2.com, I’ll be giving away more free copies of my books next Saturday! Winners will be selected from the comments!

When we think about children going off to school we think about it happening when they are in their late teens early 20's. My fiancee's mother has been blind since she was 3yrs old. At 4yrs old her family sent her to The School for the Blind. She spent the majority of 12 years at school away from her family. She went home for the holidays & during the summers. I can't imagine being sent away to school at 4yrs old away from my family. She met her husband at the school (he passed away 11yrs ago). They raised 4 sighted boys despite being unable to see. I have been sighted all of my life. About 8 months ago I bought a slate, stylus and a grade 1 & 2 Braille book so that I could learn to read and write Braille. She started me out with the Braille alphabet and off I went. I was a sports reporter for 12 yrs so naturally I love to write. She loves getting letters. She and I write to each other several times a week. I used to take my sight for granted but about two months ago I began having episodes of total vision loss. It is a sobering affect to be able to see all your life and then to wake up one day and all you see is darkness. She is a inspiration to me. Showing kindness is a priceless gift and is something that our society is seriously lacking. Showing acts of kindness can take less than a minute but it lasts for a lifetime. Reading and writing Braille is very enjoyable to me and I know it brings great joy to my fiancee's mother everyday the mailman delivers the mail.
