Kindness Revolution Day 24: Donate to Habitat for Humanity

Kindness Revolution Day 24: Donate to Habitat for Humanity

My husband spent the weekend cleaning out our garage and shed.  We’ve been renovating our home and many of the construction materials and fixtures our house once contained have found their way into the garage and shed.  So it seems like a great day to donate these leftover items like:  light fixtures, kitchen cabinets, a trash compactor, a fridge, and other items to Habitat for Humanity.  There is a ReStore in our community so we’re dropping them these items off.  They’re in good working condition, just not needed in our home anymore.

Does your home, garage, shed, or apartment locker need cleaning?  Maybe today is a good day to drop off some functional, but no longer needed, materials.  Or, maybe you can offer to help in some other way?

If you’re just joining us for the Kindness Revolution, I’m trying to spread kindness in the world by giving 29 gifts in 29 days, inspired by the book 29 Gifts.  And, I’m asking you to join me.  If you’re just tuning in, check out the first blog in this series.  And, don’t forget that it’s never too late to join the Kindness Revolution.  Start today!

And, don’t forget to add your comments to my blog because, with the help of the kind people at Care2.com, I’ll be giving away more free copies of my books  on Saturday!  Winners will be selected from the comments.

Thank you - we don't seem to have that organisation here (although thanks to Kerrie for the clicking info) - but we always do our best to pass stuff on to people or organisations who could do with it.

I tried donating to Habitat for Humanity. I had over 3 boxes of beautiful flooring, but because they were open they would not accept them. Habitat for Humanity is very picky on what they will take so I would call them before making the drive.

There's no such thing as HFH here, but we have always given the staff we no longer needed to others, and we still do. There's always a friend, or collegue, or neighbor who needs or knows someone that needs something you have. It's just a matter of asking. Just yesterday we bought a new set of chairs, and are giving the older ones to a friend. He's coming tomorrow to pick them up.

For a couple of years I spent on the local HFH board. I was involved in building 3 houses in my town and this coming Tuesday will be donating a couple of new countertops to HFH.

If you can't donate concrete items, buy something or volunteer your hands please.

Thanks for the inspiration. The kindness revolution is a great idea and I am enjoying it.
For my 24th day of giving I geve change and chocolate to a homeless man.
