Kitten Rescued from Roadway Tunnel

Kitten Rescued from Roadway Tunnel

A terrified, but unharmed ginger puffball found inside the Burnley Tunnel in Melbourne, Australia, may have lost one of his nine lives, but he gained a badge-of-honor name, Dodge – as in I dodged every car and truck in the Burnley Tunnel and survived!

It is unbelievable to watch the video footage (see next page) of this scared-half-to-death kitten cowering in a tunnel gutter as dozens of cars and trucks unknowingly whiz by at 60 miles an hour just inches away! Fortunately, tunnel monitoring equipment spotted unusual movement in the tunnel and zeroed-in on the object of concern.

Once the Citylink Transportation workers who monitor the video footage realized the object of concern was a helpless kitten, they leapt into action. Within minutes they arrived to the location, spotted the ginger kitten, shut down traffic in two lanes, and rescued the grease-covered fur ball, which apparently took some patience as Dodge scurried under the rescue vehicle. Finally seeing the transportation worker cradling this precious little kitten safely in his arms made my heart sing!

The 10-week old kitten was handed over to the Lost Dog’s Home, as Citylink Transportation has worked with them for years, and they were delighted to help out a feline in need. Lost Dog’s Home will keep Dodge for eight days before putting him up for adoption in order to give his family, if he has one, the opportunity to claim him. If he remains unclaimed, applications will be accepted for his adoption.

In the meantime, Dodge paid a visit to the Citylink control room in Melbourne, where he was first spotted, to reunite with the staff who rescued him. He clearly had already put his past behind him and was enjoying all of the attention with the eight lives he had left!
