Let Your Heart Talk to Your Brain

  • 2 of 4

The diagram above shows the neural communication pathways between the heart and the brain. The heart’s intrinsic nervous system consists of ganglia, which contain local circuit neurons of several types, and sensory neurites, which are distributed throughout the heart. The intrinsic ganglia process and integrate inflowing information from the extrinsic nervous system and from the sensory neurites within the heart. The extrinsic cardiac ganglia, located in the thoracic cavity, have direct connections to organs such as the lungs and esophagus and are also indirectly connected via the spinal cord to many other organs, including the skin and arteries. The “afferent” (flowing to the brain) parasympathetic information travels from the heart to the brain through the vagus nerve to the medulla, after passing through the nodose ganglion. The sympathetic afferent nerves first connect to the extrinsic cardiac ganglia (also a processing center), then to the dorsal root ganglion and the spinal cord. Once afferent signals reach the medulla, they travel to the subcortical areas (thalamus, amygdala, etc.) and then to the cortical areas.

“Communication along all these conduits significantly affects the brain’s activity,” Science of the Heart says. “Moreover, research shows that messages the heart sends the brain can also affect performance.”

Every day I was trying speak to my heart. Sometimes it listen, other days not. Depends how much resistense I made and how hard I was trying. Then I ve learned that is better not force...just let it go..just surrender to the power of universe and God. They are in direct connection with ours hearts.

I had an eye examination appointment yesterday. My eyes are in great shape and I'm 70. My health is wonder full. I told the doctor that I am convinced the body has a consciousness of it's own as differentiated from my own consciousness.

Her response .... most people don't know that. I said, "I take care of my body and my body takes care of me,." She agreed.

I talk to my body. I encourage it, just as I would encourage a pet. "You're a good body."
When I meditate on my Creator, my body responds also, I can truly say, "I love you with all my heart, my mind, my soul and my body." The response of my body to my Creator is often tears of joy overflowing. My Creator's response to my body? I'm 70 and in near perfect health. If something goes wrong with my body, Creator fixes it. lol

This could explain my constant battle with procrastination - the heart trying to override the head and vice versa. I end up virtually paralysed over those things I know I ought to do but don't want to, or that I want to but didn't ought to! It must be truly a case of being in two minds.
