Many of us have heard of chromium for blood sugar control, but how many think of vanadium? Like chrominum it has been found to help regulate sugar in the body naturally by acting in a similar way to insulin. While studies have shown that vanadium is helpful for metabolic syndrome it may not be beneficial for diabetics. It has also been found to participate in fat metabolism and energy production. It may also inhibit the formation of cholesterol.
It isn’t easy to find vanadium. Most vitamin/mineral pills don’t include it. General recommendations are for 20-30mg a day although there is no established RDA for it. Here are some sources:
Seafood
Shellfish, especially lobster
Vegetables
Parsley
Soy
Corn
Olives
Olive oil
Black pepper
Dill
Radishes
Snap beans
Whole grains
Some of the “living” vitamin and mineral products contain vanadium.

+ add your ownWhere did you get the General Recomendations of 20-30 Milligrams? Its measured in Micrograms(3 zeros behind the decimal point). I actually take Vanadium in the form of BGOV (most biolgically available) because it is not included in my multi. The dose is 1000 mcg (or one miligram). The most extreme dose I have ever heard of was for 10mg and this was taken by body builders, but the supplement company that made this dose quit because its considered outrageously excessive and feared lawsuits.
That said, I didn't realize its found in these foods. I love olives and take parsley powder as part of my morining protein drink.
Thanks for the info.
save the fish eat a veggi :-)
Interesting! Never even heard of it. But I eat most of the things on the food list.
