How can an elected official get away with sleeping on the job and still have an extremely high approval rating? Well, in the case of Stubbs, the mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska, it’s because he’s a cat. Yep, this town has had a feline in its highest office for over 15 years, making him one of the longest-serving mayors in the United States!
Located at the base of Mount McKinley, the 800 or so residents of this tiny town elected Stubbs into office as a write-in candidate because they were dissatisfied with the humans on the ballot. Stubbs became the mayor, a position that is largely symbolic, when he was just a kitten.
These days, Stubbs spends his time in the mayoral office, which doubles as a general store. The store’s manager, Lauri Stec, told CNN that Talkeetna is satisfied with their cat mayor, because, “He doesn’t raise our taxes — we have no sales tax. He doesn’t interfere with business. He’s honest.” Another perk of having a feline as a mayor? Stubbs has made Talkeetna a tourist attraction!

Thanks for the share!
Probably get more sense out of him than most politicians!
I'd Vote for him!!!
Interesting... looks like it works for that town :)
Probably less harmful than Sarah Palin...and doesn't quit in the middle of his first term. Maybe a good running mate for Mitt.
Wish we had a cat mayor in my town....it would be a definite improvement.
So appropo
Nice.
What a great idea -- you couldn't ask more from a mayor -- you go Stubbs!
