9 Vegan & Decadent French Desserts

If there’s one thing the French always get right, it’s dessert. In Paris, no meal is complete until a rich, flaky pastry or a fragrant tart has made its way to the table. And while un dessert français typically requires a heavy-handed use of butter and cream, we’ve rounded up recipes that are fully vegan but still as decadent as their dairy counterparts.

From fruit tarts to macarons and creme brûlée, you can channel your inner Julia Child with these 9 vegan French desserts.

Vegan Lemon Macarons

Forget about cupcakes and cronuts, a French macaron (not to be confused with a shredded coconut macaroon) rivals any dessert trend challenger with it light-as-air, crunchy outside and chewy inner filling. Described as the “holy grail of vegan desserts,” this macaron recipe comes from food blogger Dan Brellis, one-half of the cute, married duo that makes up Susanna-Dan.com.

Ingredients:
15 g Cane Sugar
57 g Almond Meal
115 g Powdered Sugar
57g Water
1/2 tsp Versawhip
15 g Ener-G Egg Replacer powder (~2Tbl)
1/4 tsp Xanthan Gum Powder
1/4 tsp Fine Lemon Zest
2 drops of Yellow Food Coloring (optional)

1/3 cup Powdered Sugar
2 tsp Lemon Zest
