And while un dessert français typically requires a heavy-handed use of butter and cream, we’ve rounded up recipes that are fully vegan but still as decadent as their dairy counterparts.

Vegan Lemon Macarons

Forget about cupcakes and cronuts, a French macaron (not to be confused with a shredded coconut macaroon) rivals any dessert trend challenger with it light-as-air, crunchy outside and chewy inner filling. Described as the “holy grail of vegan desserts,” this macaron recipe comes from food blogger Dan Brellis, one-half of the cute, married duo that makes up

15 g Cane Sugar
57 g Almond Meal
115 g Powdered Sugar
57g Water
1/2 tsp Versawhip
15 g Ener-G Egg Replacer powder (~2Tbl)
1/4 tsp Xanthan Gum Powder
1/4 tsp Fine Lemon Zest
2 drops of Yellow Food Coloring (optional)

Vegan Plaisir Sucré

With a name that means “sweet pleasure,” this recipe by Hannah Kaminsky, the author of the newly released Easy As Vegan Pie cookbook, reinvents the Pierre Hermé signature recipe with layers of dark chocolate on top of a Speculoos base.


Chocolate Sheets:
10 Ounces Dark Chocolate, Finely Chopped, Melted, and Tempered

Bittersweet Ganache:
12 oz Bittersweet Chocolate, Finely Chopped
3/4 cup Plain Non-Dairy Milk

Speculoos Dacquoise:
3/4 cup Speculoos Spread
1 cup Water
1/2 cup Confectioner’s sugar
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
1 cup Cake Flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Baking Soda
1/4 tsp Salt
1 cup Roughly Crushed Speculoos Cookies

Speculoos Praline:
1 1/3 cups Speculoos Spread
6 oz (1 cup) Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips, Melted
1/4 cup Non-Dairy Margarine, Melted
2 cups Crispy Rice Cereal

Vegan Fresh Fruit Tart

Just looking at this delectable combination of fresh fruit, short-bread-ish crust, and light sugar glaze from makes it easy to understand why fruit tarts are a staple of Parisian pâtisseries.

1 1/2 cups All Purpose Flour
1 1/4 cup Margarine
1/3 cup Powdered Sugar
2 tsp Lemon Zest
2 tsp Brown Sugar

1 8oz package Vegan Cream Cheese
3/4 tsp Vanilla
1/4 tsp Bourbon (you can just use more vanilla though if alcohol isn’t your thing)
1/2 cup Sugar

Slices of your favorite fresh fruit: We used two white peaches, two kiwi fruit (peeled), one apricot, blueberries and boysenberries but some other popular choices are strawberries, raspberries, melons, and mangoes.
