Easy Outdoor Raised Garden Beds

Easy Outdoor Raised Garden Beds

If you’ve been putting off installing a raised garden bed to grow your own fruits and vegetables, there is now no excuse to stall any longer. Scout Regalia in LA has put together a stylish hardware kit complete with instructions; you supply the wood, plants, and labor. Consider using reclaimed or locally harvested wood for your garden bed; Scout Regalia offers already-assembled beds made with wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

The Raised Garden Kit ($85) will stake into your existing soil.

The Patio Garden Kit ($95) is freestanding on your deck or patio. For soil drainage, the kit includes a drainage textile made of 40 percent post-industrial recycled content.

Both gardens can be assembled in variable dimensions, making them ideal for urban settings with soil and space constraints.

I have 20 raised garden beds at my allotment and will add 8 more this season! They are great for growing all sorts of things, easy to take care of when it comes to weeding and harvesting and good for when you grow potatoes. This way you can move them to another location each year. Good for the soil. I use mainly compost soil (have two composts, one for garden and one for household) and mix with horse or cow manure. I really recommend people with a patio or a balcony to grow some of their own vegetables. It's easy and gives you a great reward. Tomatoes, herbs, carrots and even potatoes are good for homegrowing.

I don't know much about raised gardens. It looks like you can't plant much of a variety, due to limited space. But if you have limited space to begin with, at least you can grow something!

I realize this really doesn't have much to do with this article, but I live in an apartment with a balcony. I have been dying to plant a small garden. Does anyone know how or if this is a possibility?
