Perfect Candidate for a Neti Pot

Q: I am DROWNING in sinus drainage, almost literally sometimes. I do have a deviated septum, and a small polyp. No doctor has yet thought they are serious enough to cause my extreme symptoms. I also have acid reflux. Could the two be related? Any ideas about getting rid of excess mucous? (I use few dairy products, only drink soy milk.)

A: You sound like the perfect candidate for a neti pot. The neti pot, or similar devices, allow you to cleanse the nasal passages. Performed daily, nasal irrigation could help you in two ways. This could help your problem in two ways. A daily cleansing will help remove excess mucous AND will help remove allergens in the nasal passages that may be precipitating the inflammatory response causing the excess mucous.

I've used the Neil-Med system and find it works well. I'm not sure if you have allergies or not from your letter, but, with that much sinus drainage, it sure sounds like it. I had a nightmare childhood of allergies and nothing worked until I consulted an allergist and started on desensitization shots. This sounds complicated and painful, but it isn't.

Make sure you see an allergist; you can ask your doctor for a referral or find one on your own. They will test you on various substances and prescribe a serum for the shots. This is covered by almost every insurance. I am a real baby about pain and I have no problem with the testing or the shots. Allergies shift every 5-7 years and you may have allergies to substances you didn't have problems with -- or just a slight problem with -- before. It can really improve your quality of life!

I recently discovered the Neil-Med system of nasal flushing. Uses the same idea as the Nedi-Pot but is super easy - pre-measured packets etc. It has made a huge difference for me. I am s singer and began experiencing severe COPD/Ashtma last spring. Now with use of this once or twice per day I need less medication feel better and can sing again! It is the best drug-free RX I've discovered for my health to date.

I've been using 750mg.of N-acetyl-cysteine & 1000mg. of Vitamin C to get rid of my heavy mucous problem. If you google this supplement you will see all the benefits it provides. I purchase this online. Good Luck

I have been using a neti pot for 2 reasons, the keep my sinuses as clear of bacteria as possible and the alleviate a nasal drip. I use Himalayan salt in the water and doing it in the shower each morning. I have managing the nasal drip very well and never get colds.

I have been using products Neti Pot for years my cousin suggested it because they use it in the dr office for those who cant take medications. It really works. It feels funny at first but after you get use to it, its wonderful. This is really good for pregent women especally because its just a saline flush of your nasel passages. You can find them at any drug stores.
