Almost every kid plays some kind of sport, at least for a little while. The benefits of athleticism are clear: better fitness, learning good sportsmanship and how to be a part of a team, learning resilience and trying your best.
Regardless of whether our children become future Olympians or just experiment with various sports, the expense of outfitting them can quickly become a stressor, especially if you have to provide gear for more than one child or more than one sport. The fact that kids quickly outgrow recently purchased equipment, requiring a continual replacing of sports gear, further ratchets up the expense of their pursuits.
Hockey moms, snowboarding dads, and everyone in between: Listen up! There’s a great resource that can lessen your sporting gear expense while also lessening the landfill load.
Play It Again Sports is a chain of stores that sells quality used sporting goods. They carry gear and equipment from most major brands for the following sports: baseball/softball, football, golf, hockey, lacrosse, snow sports, water sports, and wheeled sports, as well as fitness equipment such as treadmills, weights, and exercise bikes. New equipment and adult sizes are also available.
At Play It Again Sports, in addition to making direct cash purchases, if you have used sports gear or equipment that has a lot of life left in it, you can trade it in for used or new equipment, or get cash for it. If you’re “trading up” and getting higher quality or more expensive equipment, you would only pay the difference between the value assigned to the items you’ve turned in and the item you wish to purchase, creating a discount and savings for you. Check out the Play It Again Sports website to find which of their nearly 350 locations is closest to you, and “Play ball!” for less.

I buy a majority of my son's soccer and Basketball gear at thrift shops and garage sales. Most of the equipment has just been grown out of and is almos as good as new.
great info
sounds like a good website
thanks for the post
Great ideas, Terri. For my baseball playing daughters, I have bought cleats on ebay each season with great results. I throw them in the washing machine before they ever wear them and they come out looking great. In most cases, they were worn for one season or less by another child. This way my girls get the shoes they want at a price less than half the cost of new.
