Potent Anti-Viral Tea

A gifted African healer from Ghana gave my fiancé Len, who had the flu, instructions for how to make and use this strong and delicious tea remedy formula. In getting the ingredients I bought out the store’s fresh ginger supply and made enough of this potent tea to last for a few days. I drank some too because it had such a vibrant apple cider/ginger/lemon essence that I found irresistibly sweet, tart and spicy (and of course, I didn’t want to get sick either). I never got the virus and Len recovered without lung problems, to which he is prone:

Ingredients

Ginger helps stimulate a therapeutic sweat. Studies also show that it helps fight against bacterial infections that may develop as a result of the viral infection. Lemon juice does the same thing, warding off secondary bacterial infections and giving a whopping amount of Vitamin C. Apple cider (and apple cider vinegar), is extremely rich in minerals and has been employed since ancient times for this reason.

Step One
One cup of peeled, chopped and minced fresh ginger
10 cups of water

Step Two
Apple cider (1/2 cup per serving)
Lemon juice

Directions
Peel and mince the ginger (a food processor makes little work of this job). Simmer the minced ginger in 10 cups of water for an hour or so. Strain.

When ready to have a serving place 1/2 cup of the strained ginger water in a pan with 1/2 cup of apple cider and a squirt or two of lemon juice. Heat and serve.

A year after my original post, I am happy to report that I found a locally-owned natural foods store near my place of employment that sells fresh, organic ginger, as well as organic apple cider.

Since I don't have a food processor, I used an old-fashioned grater for the ginger. A bit time-consuming, but well worth it! The finished product doesn't even need lemon juice! YUM!

Unfortunately, Kroger (the only grocery store within walking distance of my apartment) only sells sparkling apple cider. Does this work as well as regular apple cider, or will the carbonation have a negative effect on the tea's potency?

After several weeks of not being able to shake a bad cough/cold, I went to my doctor. She prescribed a similar ginger remedy. Add grated ginger, 1 chopped green onion, 2 TBSP brown sugar to 4 cups water and boil. All ingredients (incl brown sugar) are heat stimulating. Drink the soup in a hot bath and sweat it out. After a couple days I felt fine.

The recipe is for apple cider, not apple cider vinegar! Sorry for the mixup. I've fixed the recipe. --Annie

It's whichever you choose. Just let your taste buds & your tummy decide for you.
As a personal preferance, I pick the "cider" w/o the vinegar.

I would like to know if the ingrediant is apple cider vinager or is it Cider? Makes a lot of difference to me! That's a lot of vinager! Thanks,

Kathleen C.

There's confusing information here. In the ingredients it lists it as "apple cider". In the directions it is listed as "apple cider vinegar". Does anyone know which is correct? They are 2 very different things!

I love ginger especially for warming Autumn chills, I'm gonna add some organic honey too as I find cider vinegar a bit too tart for me.

good stuff!

I know that ginger works well for tummy issues, as I have IBS. I am certainly going to try this tea. Thank-you for sharing it with us! :)
