Many types of cotton swabs have plastic spindles. Use cotton swabs with cardboard spindles. (The Q-Tip brand itself actually uses cardboard spindles, as many of you have mentioned in the comments). If 10% of U.S. households switched to a paperboard spindle, the petroleum energy saved per year would be equivalent to over 150,000 gallons of gasoline. Uses for Q Tips.
What other “Q”-things can you do to protect the earth?

+ add your ownthe ones made of plastic suck anyway! they bend so easily
or just give 'em up entirely. i'm just sayin.
It's the smallest things that make the biggest impact. Another small detail to consider, if you buy gum that has paper wrappers instead of metal type, think of all that could be saved! :)
The next time I buy Q-Tips, I'm going to make sure they have a cardboard spindle. What would I do without these great members to remind me of the smallest things to save the earth!
Yay! I only use Q-Tip brand:)
Q-Tips brand (with the cardboard stems), with just a dab of alcohol, are great for cleaning computer keyboards. (shut the computer off first of course). But they seem to be perfect for cleaning in between the keys. I've also found that if I need to clean a spot on our beige carpet, that using just a tiny bit of carpet cleaner and a Q-Tip works a treat. Wet and scrub with one end and dry with the other. But, yes, the plastic spindled ones are very flimsy anyway. Oh...it's true, you should never clean your ear canal with them, because of wax impacting...but great for all the outer ear parts, amongst other things.
Interesting and important.
I only use Q-Tips and Kleenex. The store brands just aren't as good.
I've been using the Q-tips paper brand for over 30 years, mainly for the reason that plastic NEVER decomposes! (they are gentler on your skin too!) :)
