Rejuvenating Lemon Facial Recipe

Adapted from Better Basics for the Home, by Annie Berthold-Bond (Three Rivers Press, 1999).

This refreshing gently-abrasive scrub, rich in alpha-hydroxy acids and vitamin C, gives a boost to our spirits while it sloughs away the tired dead skin from last year and even diminishes the appearance of age spots.

You won’t believe how easy this is. It only takes two common household ingredients, and the fragrance is so bright and mouth-watering, a lovely way to start the New Year with zest!

Salt is one of the best antibacterial ingredients ever, and it is slightly abrasive. Lemon juice exfoliates as it cleans.

INGREDIENTS

¼ cup sea salt
Enough lemon juice to make a paste

Combine ingredients in a bowl. Dab gently on your face with fingertips or a cotton ball, then massage into your skin, being careful to avoid your eyes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.

is this safe for both normal/dry skin and combination?

Has anyone tried this yet and had positive results? I am going to try this week and will post my results for future reference. I live in PA and ever since I moved here, my skin has been breaking out. It's horrible. I never had problems. Always clear complexion, etc. I am interested in salt facial cleansers because the ocean water always clears my face up on vacation. And I don't want to use all this other chemical junk.

My grandfather used to wash his face with lemon juice every day when my mom was young. Granny said he had the softest and clearest skin she'd ever seen.

So easy! Will try it this week and if I feel good with it will share with my teenager kids :)

I have a lemon tree in my backyard. This will be a great new facial treatment to try!

Lately I have used baking soda to wash my face and it makes it so soft. For cleaning I use baking soda, and a slice of fresh lemon. Think I will try it on my face. Linda

I use Lemon Myrtle soap in the shower. It feels lovely and smells delightful But I'll try the lemon juice and sea salt and see what it's like.

Just thought I would let everyone know, if you do have sensitive skin or cannot get sea salt try mixing the lemon juice with honey as it also has exfoliating and antibacterial properties.
