Inspired by Better Basics for the Home, by Annie Berthold-Bond (Three Rivers Press, 1999).

Whatever your hair issues are–damaged, dry, oily, or dandruffy–we have a super-simple solution for you. You just won’t believe the inexpensive ways we can combat these conditions and more with just kitchen-cupboard ingredients rather than costly and possibly dangerously toxic chemical products.

These wise ways are cheap, safe to use, and effective. We have the one-ingredient answers for all your hair woes right here:

For Damaged Hair
Blackstrap molasses is a great treatment for damaged hair. Massage some into your hair, cover with a towel or plastic bag, and allow it to remain on for as long as possible before rinsing.

For Dry Hair
Simply massage a mashed ripe avocado or some olive oil into your hair and allow it to remain on your hair for an hour (you can wrap your hair in a towel or a plastic bag, if you like) before shampooing as usual.

For Oily Hair
Add 1 teaspoon of Epsom salts to 1/2 cup of shampoo and shampoo as usual. You may increase the amount of Epsom salts a little at a time as needed.

For Dandruff
Massage some aloe vera into your scalp before washing.

I never heard of using mollasses for hair, thanks.

I have Seborreheic dermatitis. The products that I find that help me is anti-imflammatories such as lavender, sage, and rosemary to name a few. Check out Carol's daughter products. The hair balm is wonderful and also the healthy hair butter. I also use the extra virgin coconut oil. almond oil and pure shea butter. Stay away from lanolin, soy bean oil, wheat germ oil, lecithin, castor oil or squalene.

Diamond - might want to check out the shampoos at this link http://www.aromahealthtexas.com/ -- they are steam distilled essential oils without chemicals. I have tried several of the oils and lotions and love them. I would recommend the Lemon Thyme shampoo or the Rosemary shampoo.

To Diamond - try the Lemon-Thyme, Rosemary or Peppermint shampoos from Dr. Griffin at this link: http://www.aromahealthtexas.com/. She steam distills essential oils and makes products without chemicals or additives. Safe for cancer patients and people with chemical sensitivity and immune problems who can't use conventional shampoos, moisturizers, etc. - I've tried the essential oils and lotions and love them!

Coconut oil also works great for eczema, dermatitis, and Keratosis Pilaris (which I have). I take a normal shower or bath and place the coconut oil container in the warm water of the tub to soften it. After bathing, I rub the oil over the parts that are in need of treatment and get out of the shower or bath. Don't rinse the oil off, just dry as usual with a towel to remove any excess. Works great and my lesions are almost nonexistent now.

Diet helps too, you may have candida, you have to cut down on sugar and yeast, drink lots of water and eat lots of veg.
