Save a Deer, Go to Jail (video)

Have you heard the one about the couple who saved a deer and were charged with a crime? It’s a true story.

The Indiana Star reports that a local couple discovered a baby whitetail deer with life-threatening injuries. They took the ailing deer in, tended her wounds, and began feeding her with an eye dropper. As the deer recovered, she graduated to feedings from a bottle, and soon a bond was formed between “Dani” the deer and her good samaritans. The plan was to eventually return Dani to the wild.

The couple has since been charged with illegal possession of a whitetail deer and face 60 days in jail and a $500 fine each. Initially, the couple was warned that the deer would have to be killed due to its extensive contact with people. Before that could happen, Dani managed to find her way back into the wild.

Indiana Governor Mike Pence was briefed on the situation, according to The Wall Street Journal, but it has yet to be resolved.

Yea, the case was dropped. Now you can all sleep happily knowing you've done your part. Just don't bother dreaming about Dani frolicking in the wild cuz that ain't happening. In fact , she's either back home as a pet again or she's dead!

well they won. so how many of you are going to take in animals without having the permits. I wonder if I should start finding a way to keep shead feathers I find. even if it is illegal. there is no harm in me keeping a Bald Eagle feather. even if it is illegal and offensive to Native Americans.

We have those eagles where I live.

Kill a deer and you can post pictures of it on Facebook.
Save a deer and you get fined and face possible jail time.

Think deer are just for recreational killing and people don't think much of it.
Think going into the woods to kill a deer is no different than barging into someone's home to murder them and people think you are delusional.

I will never understand how society is this way.

What kind of stupid law is this? Nice people always get charged for doing something right. The stupid law intimidates people to do the right thing, no wonder there are more people out there killing, robbing, stealing, cheating and all other worse actions to harm the good and ruin the society because of the stupid law. The law may be right for taking in public wildlife but there is always exception to the situation. These couples are not going to possess the deer, they are helping another helpless life to survive which has to do with the ecosystem and the environment. I hope everyone speaks up the this nice couples and everyone should follow their kindness to contribute to other sentient beings.
