See Why Ravens are the Brainiest of Birds (3 videos)

Get the Food in the Tube

A couple of ravens have the opportunity to get a small bucket of food out of a tube by pulling it up with a piece of wire. One fails and gives the opportunity to the other. This one figures out how to bend the wire and hook it on the handle of the bucket. Pretty clever, we’d say.

Think this was impressive? See what the ravens do to get their treat on page 3.

I saw one putting a hard walnut on a tram-road and wait until tram pass and crack it open, and then the one soaking a hard peace of bread in the paddle. I also saw 2 chasing a rabbit but they couldn't catch him (thankfully). There's no doubt in their intelligence. I think they can understand and speak a lots of words too. I shore hope the ones in second video are not in captivity.

In New Zealand we have an alpine parrot...the Kea. It is one bird that would take a lot of beating for intelligence...they can be real clowns at times too.Their nature is one of great curiosity and mischiefc.Much of what they do is for entertainment which is typical of parrots....such as damaging cars by removing anything they can. They are extremely quick at solving problems to get at food. One report stated them as the worlds smartest bird but I think the African Grey would take a lt of beating

I had a pet Raven for one summer many years ago. The bird was extremely intelligent. It would bathe 3 times a day, it never forgot where it stashed its food, it would knock on the door at 6:30 a.m. for breakfast, it would shred newspaper and stick it under my car's tires (never figured that one out) It loved to play and would lie on it's back upside down with it's leg's up in the air..until I realized this was play I thought it was dead! It would come when called and sadly someone poisoned it. I think I know who did it but could never prove it. I will never forget our pet raven, it sure was wonderful being it's mom!
