Shiny Hair Rinse

Adapted from The Herbal Home Spa by Greta Breedlove (Storey Books, 1998).

This simple kitchen-cupboard recipe corrects the hair’s pH and removes residue from shampoo and other hair products, creating a healthy-looking shine and bringing out the natural highlights in your hair.

Now that the spring sun is out, let it show the shine in your hair!

INGREDIENTS

If you don’t want even the slightest lightening of color, omit the lemon juice and double the vinegar.

Juice from ½ lemon
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 cup water

To make:
1. Combine all ingredients in a pitcher or jar and mix well.

To use:
1. Shampoo and rinse hair as usual.

2. Pour the mixture on your hair and massage into the scalp and through the hair.

3. Rinse thoroughly with cool water.

my hair was being uncooperative and rather plain, so i tried using this rinse right before the dance. it made my hair very soft and touchable, i loved it! thank you so much for the tip, my friends even commented on my hair being especially soft.

p.s. any kind of vinegar should do the trick, because they're all vinegars!

Is this a good idea for relaxed/permed hair?

with the honey and olive oil solution, do you just rub it thru and then rinse it out? Doesnt it leave your hair greasy? I have very dry hair and the ends particulalrly, it just frizzes and I cant do anything.

I have tried cider vinegar and it is good but if like me you have a scourer for hair using a conditioner of honey + olive oil after you shampoo gives you the soft hair yiu have dremt of.
Also if you are short on shampoo or cash just using an eggyolk with warm water will do the shampoo wash trick

I do this every day after shampooing, except I don't rinse after - the vinegar smell dissipates as your hair dries....it's amazingly good for your hair

apple cider vinegar is expensive in where i live. will the result be the same if i use cane vinegar?

jennifer e.

no, the venegar smell is very light when you get out of the shower - and gone by the time your hair is dry. this is the way i WASH my hair (minus lemon juice). i gave up on shampoo, made my scalp overreact with oil and dandruff

Thank you for posting this! I'll have to try it soon. :)
Also, will this leave my hair smelling like vinegar? I'll be using just the vinegar & water (no lemon juice), fyi.
Thanks!
