Solve the Mystery: Name This Object

Solve the Mystery: Name This Object

There’s this thing in my kitchen junk drawer. I don’t know what it is and it’s driving me mad.

I’m not exactly a minimalist, but pretty darned close. Usually, when something new comes into my home, something else goes out because I abhor clutter. My kitchen junk drawer doesn’t even come close to living up to that name. It contains some notepads and pens, scissors, scotch tape, and a few coupons. Then there’s this thing.

It was in the drawer when we moved in. We didn’t know what it was, but surely the previous owner left it for a reason, so we kept it. Is it an accessory to a kitchen appliance? Something a chef would use? Is the fact that it was in the kitchen a false clue? More than a year later, we still don’t know what it is, but I can’t bring myself to dispose of it just yet. The mystery has gotten the best of me and I need your help.

It’s about four inches long, has one small removable part, and looks like this:

Name This Object

I have no doubt some of you will look at the picture and laugh at my ignorance. If so, it’s worth the laugh. It’s probably an everyday object whose purpose will become obvious once I know what it is…or maybe it’s something weird that no self-respecting woman would have in her home… Nevertheless, I shall risk public ridicule in order to solve the mystery.

Name this object. Please.

Update (2-11-14)

Thank you all for your input. While there were some good suggestions, it appears that the purpose of object shall remain a mystery. For those who asked, there was no imprinting or writing of any kind and no moving parts. For the record, I think I’ll put it right back in the drawer. It’s a great conversation piece, anyway…

I like this kind of mystery! Will we know, one of these days, what it is? Will we laugh our heads off when we find out?

Thanks for your update, but I'm bummed that it's still a mystery. Did you send a photo to a culinary school??

Thanks for the update Ann - it was driving me slightly nuts wondering what it is, but oddly, I am happy to be told that it remains a mystery!
