You can only pray what’s in your heart.
Science has lately confirmed what healers have known for centuries: sound has the magical ability to release and heal. A prayer in the form of simple sound can be the key to freeing and transforming old feelings.
In Vein of Gold, author Julia Cameron shared a moving story of her own experience with this kind of prayer. She says, “I began to ‘sing’ my dead mother whom I miss but seldom weep for. Within minutes, tears were rolling freely down my face. I was contacting and healing a grief that I had carried, frozen, for a decade and a half.”
Find out how to do this simple form of prayer yourself:
1. Imagine bringing your energy down from your head into your heart. What are you feeling? Grief, anger, stress, quiet happiness? What truth does your heart hold for you today?
2. Now take in a deep breath and, keeping this deeper truth of the heart in mind, open your mouth and allow the breath to come out as a sound. Just allow the sound to flow, no matter what it is–howl, groan, laugh, one pure note. Imagine that the great spirit which permeates all things is gently carrying your sound on its wings. Your sound is accepted and may be transformed if that is what needs to happen. See if your sound wants to change. If feelings being to come up, allow this to happen.
3. Take a moment to give thanks to the truth of your heart for what it has told you.
