Adapted from The Path to Love, by Deepak Chopra, (Three Rivers Press, 1997).

The only eternal relationship anyone ever has is with the higher Self. The real spiritual work is to learn self-love. The mind can be trained into self-love by being shown, over and over, that the higher Self is a safe haven of love and protection. It is kind of a circular process:

The higher Self cannot protect you until you seek its security; this process begins when you devote time and energy to self-love. Self-love grows when you refuse to follow the impulses of anger and fear, trust that the universe is on your side, form your desires from the heart and watch the higher Self carry them out, believe that you are enough in and of yourself, heed the tenderness and sweetness of your love for others, put your attention on positive energies in every situation, honor your own needs without having to seek outside approval, and cultivate the peace of inner silence.

Im working on this ...I have to remind myself of my self-worth and constantly work on staying calm. Im sick because I let myself to get hurt and as a result angry. In the end it affected me more. Im learning to distance myself from any kind of negativity for my own sake. Thank you Mr. chopra:)

Yes! Imbibing and living out the positive outlook benefits firstly the doer himself and conversely, the first to be adversely affected by his negative actions or thoughts, manifested through some form of illness. I agree.

Hi Andrea,
Dyer is great! He's been writing for about 30 years. When you get a chance, go to the Self-Help section of Border's or Barnes and Noble. You'll find a ton of his books.

You are doing what I am trying to do so I found what you wrote interesting. Ive not heard of Wayne Dyer???

Joe Paretta

I have been trying to practive this for some time, but always seem to run into an obstacle of some sort. Recently, however, I have been hearing the voice of God like never before. I have gotten better at staying quiet and listening for Him. In the process, I believe that I am being better to my "self."

I remind myself that God Provides to those who Love and Obey Him. Obeying has been, and continued to be, my challenge. But through a regular reading and studying of The Bible and reading the works of the likes of Deepak Chopra and Wayne Dyer, I KNOW that I am transcending my "former" self and becoming one with my Higher Conscience.

I have only just after all my years of live, realised after reading these messages, that God did in fact say "love thy neighbour as thy self" I have spent my life putting others first and as a consequence am now tired and sick and have been let down so badly by someone I gave up my life to be with. After reading all your comments I feel as if a door has opened for me, I can see where I have gone wrong. I need to take care of ME now. Thank you

We can look at things many different ways, but if we are grounded in God's love we can overcome them all! Pete Morrison

Yes, we must remember to love ourselves. And as a parent, especially, one does forget to just be kind your yourself from day to day. And there is a stigma attached to being too much in love with yourself in our culture in the U.S. Thank you for reminding me that I'm really important and not to be put on a shelf.
